Movie: Have it from the books or an adaptation |
Lead | |
|
After hearing the many opinions of the board members, I thought it would be good to put a poll up asking if you would rather have the movie exactly as it
happened in the books or an adaptation? I think having it exactly as the books would be nice, but an adaptation would be a good addition to the story. What do
you think..?
Would you rather have the movie go exactly as the book says or an adaptation? (Total Votes: 27) - ClosedGo by the book! (9 / 33.3%) An adaptation! (15 / 55.6%) Not sure.. (3 / 11.1%) |

Go adaption. Directly from the book wouldn't work. It would be wierd for Chris J. Kelly to be saying Darren's thoughts.

I'm going to say Adaption as well. Because a full on faithfull adaption wouldn't work, espcially for book 3...

I say Adaption. The movie would be too long if it would be exactly as in the books.

I said adaption but it can be slaughter if not adapted properly, and it wouldn't be to hard to get Darrens thoughts into spoken words if they tried hard
enough (even though the likelyhood is that it would be naff). There adapting a book and changing it compleatly.

Exactly. A direct adaption and I would be sitting there ruining the film for everyone who HASN'T read the books.. Not that I don't plan on filling in
what I know anyawy..

Adaption.....................even though I was one of the people that said the movie should be exactly like the
book....................................................but hay thats Hollywood for yeah!

And an adaption goves it a bit more depth..

Not the way Hollywood generally adapts stuff!!!!!!!!!! I still recone a British adaption would be better!!!!!!!

Definetly and adaptation. Going directly from the book would be hard because Chris J. Kelly would be narrorating all the way through (and that's bound to
get on your nerves sometime!) and there wouldn't be a single surprise in the movie, it'd be like watching the book.

I'm seeing the film.. But i'm going into it with the mentality of "insipiered" over "based" off the books..

although i know it would be boring to go directly by the book but i mean cmon how much stuff have they missed out. so many movies have been spoiled by going a
different way from the book. s recent example which im sure most of you will have noticed is harry potter six where they left out key parts which will muck up
the next film. I think this is what is going to happen to the darren shan films. They left out so many main bits that it wont work properly. in fact they didnt
even get darrens age right at the start of the movie.

They've left out important elements in every Harry Potter movie, not just the sixth. And it only hurts the people that know the books, for those who are
just watching the movies, I'm sure they'll make it up somehow, they've already gotten this far. The CDF film is a way to enitce those who
haven't read the saga to do so. Of course the hardcore fans are going to notice the problems, but afterall, it's and adaptation.

My opinion is that, the movie NEEDS to go with at least the same main plot as the books. For example I'd say Lord of the rings is a perfect example of a
great book based movie. It did not keep everything the same, actually they changed quite a lot, but they really stayed true to the main story. Another thing is
to keep the mood same. If the books are thrilling, the movie has to be thrilling. If the books are fantasy, the movie must be too. If the books are horror, the
movie should be horror (not for example comedy!!!! Hmm...where did I get that idea from?)
So changes are always allowed, but they should be very well done. For example the Vampires assistant movie had a lot of pointless changes...and I mean a lot.... P.S. Going by the books is NOT boring, if the movie is well done. Once again, Lord of the rings is a good example. Fans for some strange reason did not complain: "The movies go too much like the books, its soo booooring! *goes away to wait for Twilight to come out*" |

I will agree that the movie doesn't go by the books 100% (probably more like 30-40%), and there were some things they did that I thought could've been
trimmed to fit more interesting stuff in. (While I had no problem with where they took the Steve story, I thought it would've been better for the movie to
have left us in the dark till the final scenes, and used the other time to focus on Darren). But I really did feel that the heart of the story was there...they
didn't take in a wildly new direction, they just put a different spin (so to speak), on the original story.
Manicer, I'll stress this again...don't.go.by.the.trailer. That trailer is VERYVERY misleading, and 2/3rds of it isn't even in the movie anyway. |

I think I will see it...in 4 months (it will come here in 4 months) And Grubby, I will see it and judge it then, ok? You just have to wait some months....unless some of you can point me a link to see it online. |
