THE BOOKS - First of all let me say that I loved these books, I read
them as they came out and couldn't wait for the next book each time!
Sort of like the Harry Potter books.. Actually I picked the first
Cirque book up while waiting for one of the HP books.. But anyways, the
books were so amazing, detailed, and Darren Shan did an AWESOME job
with it! (Besides the ending of the last book - did you know he
actually was originally going to have like 17 books or so, but cut it
short so he could start Demonata? The ending of the stories sucked so
hard but still the rest of the books were just amazing..
I was excited to watch this movie even though I knew that it wouldn't
be like I imagined, but I had NO idea it would be this bad! I actually
thought the acting wasn't that bad.. It's just how the directors
CHANGED EVERYTHING! Let's go through all the changes...
- Never really introduced Darren's other two friends which
played a big part in the books, and later on when the one friend
becomes a pro soccer player.. So how will they bring him back when that
movie comes out when no one even knows about him through the movies?
Screwed that up.
-The wolf man bit a regular customers' arm
off, which was fixed later but it wasn't part of the act, just an
accident. Screwed that up.
-The Vampaneze, Steve - The vampaneze
weren't even mentioned in the first book. Mr. Tiny wasn't introduced in
the first book. Steve came to the graveyard after Darren was dug out,
claimed his mission to get revenge then disappeared until book 5 or so,
as a vampaneze.
- The spider was completely different in the movie. In the book,
the only way to stop it from biting ANYONE, including Mr. Crepsley, was
to play the flute. In the movie, for some reason the spider was
everyone's friend except Steve's. So stupid. Also, it didn't bite Steve
in the school. Darren and Steve were playing with the spider in his
bedroom when Darren lost concentration and the spider made his move on
-Mr. Crepsley.. played by a COMEDIAN? Are you JOKING? In
the books, Mr. Crepsley was portrayed a serious father-like figure
vampire who didn't joke at all. He didn't use protractions at all in
any books.. actually I think I saw it one time in all the books. He
would say "it is" instead of "it's" just for an example. In the movie,
He was trying to be funny half the time, cursing, yadda yadda yadda..
They really screwed up Mr. Crepsley BAD.
-Steve. Played by a
terrible actor. The kid just plain doesn't look evil and certainly
can't act like it. Even when he's trying to be bloodthirsty at the end,
it's just stupid. He doesn't come off as evil.
In the books, the family never finds out about Darren. Annie meets him
again halfway through the book series and is kidnapped but the parents
are NEVER brought into the story again, and certainly not in the first
book! WTF IS THAT?
-Monkey girl? was non-existant in the
books. In the books Darren finally drinks blood from his dying friend
Sam(?) in order to keep some of his soul alive within Darren. I really
liked that companionship that they had going and the wolf man and all
that. The movie totally screwed that up. Darren didn't fall in love
until like the 7th book or so. So stupid.
Truska didn't speak
english right? She was from some foreign land with a weird language..
She wasn't clairvoyant. Darren didn't wear modern clothes, he had some
sort of costume he wore all the time. A pirate's costume from Truska, I
I could go on and on and on with all the stupid changes
they've made that make you wonder how the hell they will make a
sequel.. it's almost as if they're re-writing the story altogether how
Hollywood wants it.. I mean you expect the slight changes to the story
and leaving things out, but ADDING things that never happened? Half the
movie never happened in the book.. WTF Hollywood? Just because some
stupid Twilight movies made all the little teenage girls want to be
vampires doesn't mean that you have to screw up a good series like
this. This book series would have been AMAZING moviesif they would've
stuck to the storyline. But this damn twilight fad.. Now they think
everything has to be about the cute vampire and the love story and the
jokes here and there... It's a disgrace. Darren Shan, you should be
ashamed to let your work you spent years and years writing be totally
annihilated like this by Hollywood, money be damned. Have some freakin
pride man, we grew up on these books, we loved these books, we loved
you.. And now you're giving us reasons to hate it. I know I'll go back
and read the books one day, I'll probably buy the whole series and keep
it in my library. But I will NOT go see the sequel. I will not waste my
money on that. This could have been an epic movie, as the books were so
epic. But you've managed to let them turn it into the next twilight,
only worse. You really screwed the pooch on this one, Darren. I really
hope you read this someday. The only way I will watch the sequel is if
they fire the director and get one who knows how to make a good movie
along the plotline of the book.
Waste of 2 hours of my life that
I will never get back. Thanks Darren Shan, and you owe me $10 for going
to see this sad excuse for a movie. I loved your books more than
anything, more than HARRY POTTER even.. But it was because the dark nature tied in with still being kids books.. The parts that made you feel they were vampires, not
teenagers living some sort of fantasy together aka twilight.
You have some work to do, Hollywood. You have some dignity to salvage, Darren Shan.
