So..uh...are we getting a sequel? |

Are we? I have a feeling they won't make one because of how bad it did in the box office. It's really disappointing because this couldve made so much
more with a little something called advertising! They took so long to start advertising this! They started advertising new moon (yuck) in the summer! Oh well,
you never know! They could take a chance and make a sequel ( which I hope they do)

It really hasn't done THAT bad overall...it's made over $20 mil worldwide, and I don't think they were predicting it would do blockbuster anyway.
It may be 6 months to a year before we hear one way or another though.

I could have sworn I watched an interview saying that they were starting production on a sequel, but they weren't going to put it into filming unless this
one did atleast decently.

Well, my hopes were raised when I read an article that interviewed the head of distribution at Universal, she said and I quote, If the makes 10 million, that
would make us estastic...the article went on to say that the studio was privately predicting that the movie would do about 8 million opening weekend, and it
did 6.3, so they apparently are TERRIBLY disappointed by how it did....and like I said, it's doing good overseas, so...who knows?

Where are you seeing these interviews anyways?

I saw one in TIME, just after the movie came out. It had the name of Universal's head of distribution, so I googled her name and found other stuff. It
takes some digging. Some info, too, I've picked up from people I know that work in H-wood. My husband's aunt has sent me info, plus a girl I knew from
back home who does voiceover work has told me some stuff. Variety magazine is another good place to find info, sometimes you have to really look, because it
might just be mentioned in a small blurb.
Here is the remark from the TIME article that came out the weekend the movie premiered (I admitedly paraphrased her remark)... It's always an embarrassment when a movie earns less than the low-ball figures its executives publicly predict. The Vampire's Assistant, envisioned as the launch of a franchise based on Darren Shan's horror-romance books, came with the creative pedigree of director Paul Weitz (American Pie, About a Boy, In Good Company) and Oscar-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential). Its distributor had a modest goal: "If it comes in with double digits," said Universal's Nikki Rocco, "that will be a win for us." Instead, it cadged just $6.3 million. Expect no sequels du Freak. There was another article where this same person was quoted as calling the movie's opening weekend a "modest" underperformance. Going off the remark above (and the talk i've gotten from my "sources"*haha*, the studio was privately figuring the movie would make $8-10 mil, and most predictions in the media said $10 mil), I'd say that if the movie keeps doing well overseas, and does decently on DVD, we might see a sequel.

It wouldn't suprise me to hear that they commissioned someone to at least write a screenplay for one, so that if they decided to greenlight it, it would be
ready to go faster. However, apart from JCR making a joke that they had already started on a sequel, I haven't heard anything one way or the other.

At Fantastic Fest they said they were signed on via contract for another movie.

vampetz wrote: I suspect what they were referring to is an option contract. Basically, they agree to be at the studio's beck and call...if the studio greenlights a sequel, they are contractually obligated to be in it, no matter what (unless they have a really great reason not to, a good lawyer, or the studio releases them). Studio's will do that so they don't have to go through the process of re-casting the leads, and can start production faster. It doesn't necessarily mean there will BE a sequel, just that if there is one, they will be in it. |

I think it's a possibility...I just read yesterday they announced a sequel to "Inkheart"...if THAT movie can get a sequel, then we can
too...*lol*
It all just depends on what the studio beancounters are looking for. I got the impression they weren't figuring on this being a huge hit right out of the gate, so they wisely kept the budget and their expectations low. |

Yeah. Having Cirque Du Freak compete with Paranormal and Saw is ridiculous. Even though both Paranormal and Saw weren't good, people are still stupid
enough to go watch them instead of Cirque :/

everyone on the monday after cdf came out people are all like ' oh yeqah saw was so gross it almost made me puke' or 'PA sucked it wasnt even

Well, I think Paranormal stole alot of audience away. It was a kinda out of nowhere movie...nobody had even heard of it when they set the release date for CDF.
But so far, the movie has done around $25 mil worldwide, and I'm betting it will do decently on DVD, so we may see a sequel eventually.

how much did they spend making the movie?

The studio reported the budget as $40 million

As of yesterday (11/5), the movie had made about $11.9 million here in the U.S., $3.4 million in the U.K., and about 9 million in the other foreign
territories. It was released in Belgium and the Netherlands this week. Now, the totals for foreign markets are just the weekend totals, I can't seem to
find anything the shows daily box office takes for anything other than the U.S., so I round my totals up to take into consideration that it probably has made
money overseas that I haven't found reported.
